My work “Compilation” oscillates between the ironic and the absolute, revealing an otherwise hidden absurdity amongst the act of ritual. The inclusion of appropriated text and the repetition of imagery bring the daily routine to a sublime platform where meaning is questioned. I provoke the viewer by the deliberate exclusion of the traditional art material and replace it with the mass produced—the advertised—the technology of the current age. This reference to the modern public realm allows for an instant visual understanding to rather elusive subject matter. This contrast between surface understanding and ingrained meaning creates a jarring perspective to the daily acts of life otherwise overlooked.
